Gal 5:16-23 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and all of you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that all of you cannot do the things that all of you would. But if all of you be led of the Spirit, all of you are not under the law. Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, worldy jealousies, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, wilful restrain: against such there is no law. The focus is on verses 19-21 where Apostle Paul states that those whom do the evil things of the flesh will not inherit the kingdom of God. I included a few verses before and after to understand this passage better. Some says only unbelievers do the works of the flesh. WRONG!!! Apostle Paul was addressing Galatians Christians. He exhorted them to walk in the (Holy) Spirit, not in the flesh. If all Christians walk in the (Holy) Spirit, then why did Apostle Paul exhorted them to walk in the (Holy) Spirit in verse 16? The readers were saved and needed to choose between walking in the (Holy) Spirit or in the flesh. In verses 17-18, Apostle Paul wrote the (Holy) Spirit and the flesh are opposed to each other, and that if one walks in the former, there is no legalism. In verses 22-23, he wrote the qualities of someone who walks in the (Holy) Spirit. It is "Once Saved" + "Commitment to Jesus" = "Always Saved" where "Commitment to Jesus" means - having an active faith, - living a life of repentance, and - obeying the Lord. A person, who is "Committed to Jesus", will shun sins and NOT be an evildoer. Hence, these verses (i.e., Gal 5:19-21) will NOT apply to that person. ********** All scriptures are from the Updated King James Version bible which can found at http://www.geocities.com/updatedkjv/ .
